For the inaugural O’Reilly survey on serverlessarchitecture adoption, we were pleasantly surprised at the high level of response: more than 1,500 respondents from a wide range of locations, companies, and industries participated. The high response rate tells us that serverless is garnering significant mindshare in the community.
Shifting from monolith to microservices makes it easier to test, develop, and release innovative features more rapidly. Data supports this shift from monolithic architecture to microservices approaches. Easier to test. Challenging during build, test, and release cycles. Better testing. Complicated testing.
Serverless Stagnant. We didn’t attempt to define serverless precisely, but for many people in our audience, serverless means “function-as-a-service” (for example, AWS Lambda). Services like AWS S3 are very much “serverless,” but that’s not common usage. In the case of ascendancy, a trend might be (ephemerally) emergent.
I started writing “ ServerlessArchitectures ” in May 2016. Fast forward to two years later and the article has had more than half a million visits, regularly appears in the top five Google search results for “Serverless”, and helped launched Symphonia ?—?my What is Serverless? I thought a few folks might be interested.
