Dynatrace is proud to be an AWS launch partner in support of Amazon Lambda SnapStart. The new Amazon capability enables customers to improve the startup latency of their functions from several seconds to as low as sub-second (up to 10 times faster) at P99 (the 99th latency percentile). What is Lambda? How does Dynatrace help?
Dynatrace is a launch partner in support of AWS Lambda Response Streaming , a new capability enabling customers to improve the efficiency and performance of their Lambda functions. This enhancement allows AWS users to stream response payloads back to clients. To learn more about the AWS Lambda features, visit the Lamba features page.
Traditional computing models rely on virtual or physical machines, where each instance includes a complete operating system, CPU cycles, and memory. VMware commercialized the idea of virtual machines, and cloud providers embraced the same concept with services like Amazon EC2, Google Compute, and Azure virtual machines.

Uploading and downloading data always come with a penalty, namely latency. Virtual Assembly Figure 3 describes how a virtual assembly of the encoded chunks replaces the physical assembly used in our previous architecture. In order to do that, the storage cloud object is modeled as a number of fixed size parts.
While you may assume a great majority of the cloud database deployments are run on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, small to medium-sized businesses in particular are gravitating towards the developer-friendly cloud provider, DigitalOcean , for their hosting for MongoDB® needs. DigitalOcean Advantages for MongoDB. DigitalOcean Droplets.
We’re excited to announce Dynatrace has been named as a select launch partner for a newly launched Amazon Web Services (AWS) offering, Amazon ECS Anywhere. This new extension allows customers to deploy native Amazon ECS tasks in any target environment including traditional AWS managed infrastructure and now customer-managed infrastructure.
Expanding the Cloud - The AWS Storage Gateway. Today Amazon Web Services has launched the AWS Storage Gateway, making the power of secure and reliable cloud storage accessible from customersâ?? The Amazon Virtual Private Cloud extends on-premises compute with all the power of AWS, making it elastic, scalable and highly reliable.
At AWS, we don't mark many anniversaries. A concept that has changed infrastructure architecture is now at the core of both AWS and customer reliability and operations. Powering the virtual instances and other resources that make up the AWS Cloud are real physical data centers with AWS servers in them.
Virtualization can be a key player in your process’ performance, and Dynatrace has built-in integrations to bring metrics about the Cloud Infrastructure into your Dynatrace environment. Dynatrace provides out-of-the-box support for VMware, AWS, Azure, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, and Kubernetes. OneAgent & cloud metrics.
The first was voice control, where you can play a title or search using your virtual assistant with a voice command like “Show me Stranger Things on Netflix.” (See Where aws ends and the internet begins is an exercise left to the reader. See How to use voice controls with Netflix if you want to do this yourself!).
Amazon DynamoDB offers low, predictable latencies at any scale. Amazon DynamoDB stores data on Solid State Drives (SSDs) and replicates it synchronously across multiple AWS Availability Zones in an AWS Region to provide built-in high availability and data durability. s read latency, particularly as dataset sizes grow.
The epoch of AWS is the launch of Amazon S3 on March 14, 2006, now almost 10 years ago. Given that AWS is a pioneer in building and operating these services world-wide, these lessons have been of crucial importance to our business. AWS helps its customers do this too. Build security in from the ground up.
Expanding the Cloud - The AWS GovCloud (US) Region. Today AWS announced the launch of the AWS GovCloud (US) Region. The concept of regions gives AWS customers control over the placement of their resources and services. All Things Distributed. Werner Vogels weblog on building scalable and robust distributed systems.
A brief history of IPC at Netflix Netflix was early to the cloud, particularly for large-scale companies: we began the migration in 2008, and by 2010, Netflix streaming was fully run on AWS. The abstractions that Eureka provides for this are Virtual IPs (VIPs) for insecure communication, and Secure VIPs (SVIPs) for secure.
Already, IoT is delivering deep and precise insights to improve virtually every aspect of our lives. Because these IoT devices are powered by microprocessors or microcontrollers that have limited processing power and memory, they often rely heavily on AWS and the cloud for processing, analytics, storage, and machine learning.
Relationships are a fundamental aspect of both the physical and virtual worlds. Modern applications need to quickly navigate connections in the physical world of people, cities, and public transit stations as well as the virtual world of search terms, social posts, and genetic code, for example. The importance of relationships.
Balancing Low Latency, High Availability and Cloud Choice Cloud hosting is no longer just an option — it’s now, in many cases, the default choice. These systems are the ideal candidates for moving to the cloud because they can be moved onto smaller, cheaper virtual hardware, which frees up their expensive hardware for re-use or disposal.
It's an exciting time for developments in computer performance, not just for the BPF technology (which I often [write about]) but also for processors with 3D stacking and cloud vendor CPUs (e.g., Ford, et al., “TCP on Upcoming Sapphire Rapids CPUs,” [link] Oct 2020 - [Liu 20] Linda Liu, “Samsung QVO vs EVO vs PRO: What’s the Difference?
A Cassandra database cluster had switched to Ubuntu and noticed write latency increased by over 30%. CLI tools The Cassandra systems were EC2 virtual machine (Xen) instances. Note that Ubuntu also has a frame to show entry into vDSO (virtual dynamic shared object). At least AWS have now included it in their recommendations.
As we began growing the AWS business, we realized that external customers might find our Dynamo database just as useful as we found it within Amazon.com. So, we set out to build a fully hosted AWS database service based upon the original Dynamo design.
In this role, I am leading a global team that works closely with our strategic partners such as AWS, Microsoft, Google, Pivotal, Red Hat and others. Lift & Shift is where you basically just move physical or virtual hosts to the cloud – essentially you just run your host on somebody else’s hardware.
Many of you know Thorsten von Eicken as the founder of Rightscale , the company that has helped numerous organizations find their way onto AWS. The lack of low-latency made that distributed systems (e.g. U-Net also heavily influenced what later became the Virtual Network Architecture industry standard.
My personal opinion is that I don't see a widespread need for more capacity given horizontal scaling and servers that can already exceed 1 Tbyte of DRAM; bandwidth is also helpful, but I'd be concerned about the increased latency for adding a hop to more memory. Ford, et al., “TCP
On-Premises Data Center A hybrid cloud architecture necessitates that an organization retains full authority over its physical or virtual infrastructure within the private cloud segment. Defining Hybrid Cloud Strategy The decision-making process about where to situate data and applications is vital to any hybrid cloud solution.
AWS offers its customers a choice of different database services, each optimized for different workloads. Amazon ElastiCache is a fully managed, in-memory caching service for customers to optimize the latency, performance and cost of their read workloads.
Various forms can take shape when discussing workloads within the realm of cloud computing environments – examples include order management databases, collaboration tools, videoconferencing systems, virtual desktops, and disaster recovery mechanisms. This applies to both virtual machines and container-based deployments.

Infrastructure Excellence ScaleGrid’s infrastructure is designed to facilitate hosting in your cloud account and provides cost-saving options with AWS or Azure Reserved Instances or GCP. Another significant trend is the expansion of edge computing in AI cloud computing.
photo by Adrian I gave a talk at Monitorama in Portland Oregon in June, which set out the idea that carbon is just another metric to monitor, and that in a few years most of the monitoring and performance tuning tools are going to be reporting and optimizing for carbon alongside latency, throughput, availability and cost.
those resources now belong to cloud providers, such as AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, and others. Again, the benefit being that the code within your containers or virtual machines is managed by the cloud provider. Applications that are running continuously on a dedicated server aren’t as impacted by latency issues.
It was – like the hypothetical movie I describe above – more than a little bit odd, as you could leave a session discussing ever more abstract layers of virtualization and walk into one where they emphasized the critical importance of pinning a network interface to a specific VM for optimal performance. The “Public Private Cloud” folks.

Here's some output from my zfsdist tool, in bcc/BPF, which measures ZFS latency as a histogram on Linux: # zfsdist. Tracing ZFS operation latency. What happens if processes really do try to populate all that virtual memory? Many new tools can now be written, and the main toolkit we're working on is [bcc]. Hit Ctrl-C to end. ^C

Don’t wait till the AWS bill comes in before doing this! This ties back to ‘rule 1’ — you and everyone who works on the project need to understand how everything works, be able to see what happens when you make changes, and generally be 100% comfortable in the virtual world you have created. What you own, you control.
For applications like communication between AVs, latency–how long it takes to get a response–is more likely to be a bigger limitation than raw bandwidth, and is subject to limits imposed by physics. There are impressive estimates for latency for 5G, but reality has a tendency to be harsh on such predictions.
