Netflix delivers shows like Sacred Games, Stranger Things, Money Heist, and many more to more than 150 million subscribers across 190+ countries around the world.
Among the critical enablers for fast data access implementation within in-memory data stores are the game changers in recent times, which are technologies like Redis and Memcached. We have run these benchmarks on the AWS EC2 instances and designed a custom dataset to make it as close as possible to real application use cases.
Yesterday, AWS evangelist Jeff Barr wrote that AWS will be opening a region in South Korea in early 2016 that will be our 5th region in Asia Pacific. The AWS UK region will be our third in the European Union (EU), and we're shooting to have it ready by the end of 2016 (or early 2017).
But your infrastructure teams don’t see any issue on their AWS or Azure monitoring tools, your platform team doesn’t see anything too concerning in Kubernetes logging, and your apps team says there are green lights across the board. The blame game. So, what happens next?
Today, I am very excited to announce our plans to open a new AWS Region in France! Based in the Paris area, the region will provide even lower latency and will allow users who want to store their content in datacenters in France to easily do so. Over the past 10 years, we have seen tremendous growth at AWS.
In April 2017, Amazon Web Services announced that it would launch a new AWS infrastructure region Region in Sweden. Today, I'm happy to announce that the AWS Europe (Stockholm) Region, our 20th Region globally, is now generally available for use by customers.
Today, I am very excited to announce our plans to open a new AWS Region in Hong Kong! The new region will give Hong Kong-based businesses, government organizations, non-profits, and global companies with customers in Hong Kong, the ability to leverage AWS technologies from data centers in Hong Kong.
Today, I am very excited to announce our plans to open a new AWS Region in the Nordics! The new region will give Nordic-based businesses, government organisations, non-profits, and global companies with customers in the Nordics, the ability to leverage the AWS technology infrastructure from data centers in Sweden.
In November, Amazon Web Services announced that it would launch a new AWS infrastructure region in South Korea. For example, Samsung Electronic Printing used AWS to deploy its Printing Apps Center in a way that didn’t require them to invest up-front capital and kept total costs quite low.
Expanding the Cloud - Introducing the AWS Asia Pacific (Tokyo) Region. Today Amazon Web Services is expanding its world-wide coverage with the launch of a new AWS Region located in Tokyo, Japan. The advanced Asia Pacific network infrastructure also makes the AWS Tokyo Region a viable low-latency option for customers from South Korea.

In fact, this is been proven by our customers as Amazon Aurora remains the fastest growing service in AWS history. Typical use cases for a relational database include web and mobile applications, enterprise applications, and online gaming. The opposite is true. Building applications with purpose-built databases.
Where aws ends and the internet begins is an exercise left to the reader. Dynomite is a Netflix open source wrapper around Redis that provides a few additional features like auto-sharding and cross-region replication, and it provided Pushy with low latency and easy record expiry, both of which are critical for Pushy’s workload.
Amazon DynamoDB offers low, predictable latencies at any scale. Amazon DynamoDB stores data on Solid State Drives (SSDs) and replicates it synchronously across multiple AWS Availability Zones in an AWS Region to provide built-in high availability and data durability. s read latency, particularly as dataset sizes grow.
DynamoDB Streams is the enabling technology behind two other features announced today: cross-region replication maintains identical copies of DynamoDB tables across AWS regions with push-button ease, and triggers execute AWS Lambda functions on streams, allowing you to respond to changing data conditions. DynamoDB Streams.
coryodaniel : Rewrote an #AWS APIGateway & #lambda service that was costing us about $16000 / month in #elixir. 12 million requests / hour with sub-second latency, ~300GB of throughput / day. A much better way to do this would be to make a "next Logo" that would allow game players to make the AI brains needed by the robots.
A brief history of IPC at Netflix Netflix was early to the cloud, particularly for large-scale companies: we began the migration in 2008, and by 2010, Netflix streaming was fully run on AWS. In addition, Netflix is always changing: we’re constantly adding new initiatives like live streaming, ads and games, and evolving our architecture.
While DynamoDB already allows you to perform low-latency queries based on your tableâ??s This gives you the ability to perform richer queries while still meeting the low-latency demands of responsive, scalable applications. s say that your social gaming application tracks player activity. With LSI we expand DynamoDBâ??s
Similarly, relationships are essential in many other use cases such as financial modeling, risk analysis, genome research, search, gaming, and others. When using relational databases, traversing relationships requires expensive table JOIN operations, causing significantly increased latency as table size and query complexity grow.
Details on the AWS Blog. AWS has been offering a range of storage solutions: objects, block storage, databases, archiving, etc. When we designed Amazon EFS we decided to build along the AWS principles: Elastic, scalable, highly available, consistent performance, secure, and cost-effective. Details on the AWS Blog.
Redis's microsecond latency has made it a de facto choice for caching. Four years ago, as part of our AWS fast data journey, we introduced Amazon ElastiCache for Redis , a fully managed, in-memory data store that operates at microsecond latency. Whether it is gaming, adtech, travel, or retail—speed wins, it's simple.
In particular this has been true for applications based on algorithms - often MPI-based - that depend on frequent low-latency communication and/or require significant cross sectional bandwidth. Cluster Compute Instances for Amazon EC2 change the HPC game for two important reasons: Access to scalable on-demand capacity. All postings.
I spent a lot of time talking to AWS developers, many working in the gaming and mobile space, and most of them have been finding Node.js allows these developers to handle a large number of concurrent connections with low latencies. Today, AWS Elastic Beanstalk just added support for Node.js
DynamoDB continues to be embraced for workloads in Gaming, Ad-tech, Mobile, Web Apps, and other segments where scale and performance are critical. Let’s walk through another gaming example. Consider a table named GameScores that keeps track of users and scores for a mobile gaming application.
AWS offers its customers a choice of different database services, each optimized for different workloads. Amazon ElastiCache is a fully managed, in-memory caching service for customers to optimize the latency, performance and cost of their read workloads.
Exploring artificial intelligence in cloud computing reveals a game-changing synergy. In this way, intelligent automation is a game-changer in the cloud computing landscape. Discover how AI is reshaping the cloud and what this means for the future of technology. Frequently Asked Questions What role does AI play in cloud computing?
Customers from various verticals (media, social gaming, mobile, news, advertisement) such as Netflix, Shazam and Scopely have used SQS in variety of use-cases requiring loose coupling and high performance. Similarly, AWS customers have been using SQS in interesting ways. s Chief Architect Adrian Cockcroft blogged â??
It takes you through the thinking processes and engineering practices behind the design of a key part of the control plane for AWS Elastic Block Storage (EBS): the Physalia database that stores configuration information. For Physalia, and for AWS more generally, the guiding principle is minimise the blast radius. NSDI’20.
Voice becomes a game changer. All of these benefits make voice a game changer for interacting with all kinds of digital systems. When we released Amazon Alexa, our intelligent, cloud-based voice service, we built its voice technology on the AWS Natural Language Processing platform powered by ML algorithms. Want to learn more?
My personal opinion is that I don't see a widespread need for more capacity given horizontal scaling and servers that can already exceed 1 Tbyte of DRAM; bandwidth is also helpful, but I'd be concerned about the increased latency for adding a hop to more memory. Ford, et al., “TCP
Clouds using Ethernet that are multipath optimized using libfabric and features like EFA on AWS are going to be increasingly competitive, and Ethernet will replace other interconnects between racks. AWS has invested in optimizing Ethernet for HPC via the Elastic Fabric Adaptor (EFA) option, and the l ibfabric library.
Twitch developer documentation hosted on AWS, edited on CloudCannon. Platforms such as Snipcart , CommerceLayer , headless Shopify , and Stripe enable you to manage products in a friendly UI while taking advantage of the benefits of Jamstack: Amazon’s famous study reported that for every 100ms in latency, they lose 1% of sales.

A learning organization, disaster recovery testing, game days, and chaos engineering tools are all important components of a continuously resilient system. Collecting some critical metrics at one second intervals, with a total observability latency of ten seconds or less matches the human attention span much better.

Estimated Input Latency tells us if we are hitting that threshold, and ideally, it should be below 50ms. Designed for the modern web, it responds to actual congestion, rather than packet loss like TCP does, it is significantly faster , with higher throughput and lower latency — and the algorithm works differently.
Estimated Input Latency tells us if we are hitting that threshold, and ideally, it should be below 50ms. Brotli is widely supported, and many CDNs support it ( Akamai , AWS , KeyCDN , Fastly , Cloudlare , CDN77 ) and you can enable Brotli even on CDNs that don’t support it yet (with a service worker).
