Since its introduction by AWS in 2014, AWS Lambda has revolutionized the compute space and boosted the entire serverless movement. since 2017, and many customers have used it with great success while we collected requirements for the next iteration of our Lambda extension. A look under the hood of AWS Lambda.
At Netflix, we've been using these technologies as they've been made available for instance types in the AWS EC2 cloud. The latest AWS hypervisor, Nitro, uses everything to provide a new hardware-assisted hypervisor that is easy to use and has near bare-metal performance. AWS called this [enhanced networking]. The first was c3.
Yesterday, AWS evangelist Jeff Barr wrote that AWS will be opening a region in South Korea in early 2016 that will be our 5th region in Asia Pacific. The AWS UK region will be our third in the European Union (EU), and we're shooting to have it ready by the end of 2016 (or early 2017).
Expanding the AWS Cloud—An AWS Region is coming to South Africa! Today, I am excited to announce our plans to open a new AWS Region in South Africa! AWS is committed to South Africa's transformation. Today, I am very excited to announce our plans to open a new AWS Region in France! The new region in France will be ready for customers to use in 2017. Over the past 10 years, we have seen tremendous growth at AWS. As a result, we have opened 35 Availability Zones (AZs), across 13 AWS Regions worldwide.
In April 2017, Amazon Web Services announced that it would launch a new AWS infrastructure region Region in Sweden. Today, I'm happy to announce that the AWS Europe (Stockholm) Region, our 20th Region globally, is now generally available for use by customers.
The Ohio Region is the fifth AWS region in the US. It brings the worldwide total of AWS Availability Zones (AZs) to 38, and the number of regions globally to 14. The pace of expansion at AWS is accelerating, and Ohio is our third region launch this year. We are also glad to offer low transfer rates between both US East Regions.
We built this hack using Java (Springboot framework), the Google OAuth and Calendar APIs (for finding rooms) and Twilio API (for calling into the meeting), and deployed it on AWS. Thanks to all the teams who put together a great round of hacks in 24 hours.

Up until 2017, the ML+AI topic had been amongst the fastest growing topics on the platform. After several years of steady climbing—and after outstripping Java in 2017—Python-related interactions now comprise almost 10% of all usage. Not necessarily: Java-related searches increased by 5% between 2017 and 2018. Coincidence?

But there's another factor at play: jobs are also migrating from both Solaris and Linux to cloud jobs instead, specifically AWS. I suspect at some point there'll be more jobs supporting the AWS cloud than there will be supporting Linux. From another tracker, for the US: Source: www.indeed.com.
Teams of university students can submit applications now and the contest will conclude at AWS re:Invent in November 2017, where the winners will be announced. Up to ten teams will be sponsored by Amazon and receive a $100,000 stipend, Alexa-enabled devices, free AWS services and support from the Alexa team.
By 2017, open source projects like Open-Tracing and Open-Zipkin were mature enough for use in polyglot runtime environments at Netflix. The use of a cheaper EBS Elastic volume instead of an SSD instance store was an attractive option because AWS allows dynamic increase in EBS volume size without re-provisioning the EC2 node.
If your app runs in a public cloud, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), the provider secures the infrastructure, while you’re responsible for security measures within applications and configurations. Likewise, attacks on open source libraries have increased.
We went from managing five EC2 instances in 2011 to around 1,000 in 2017. These tools and principles helped us build our SaaS solution in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud.
Hello everyone, and welcome to the last Serverless Insights of 2017! re:Invent re:View AWS re:Invent was the expected cloud-fest of mind-boggling proportions. John’s on AWS Lambda and the JVM (which needed 2 repeats) and Mike’s on Serverless and Organizational Effectiveness. This is the latest edition of our newsletter.

As we began growing the AWS business, we realized that external customers might find our Dynamo database just as useful as we found it within Amazon.com. So, we set out to build a fully hosted AWS database service based upon the original Dynamo design. As we say at AWS, It is still Day One for DynamoDB.
The light show at the re:Play party Another re:Invent has come and gone, and us mere AWS-using mortals are now rapidly trying to sort the wheat from the chaff of a heady harvest of announcements. Aftermath I provided details to AWS and Canonical, and then moved onto the other performance issues as part of the migration. Later that year (2014), Anthony Liguori from AWS gave a [re:Invent talk] recommending users switch the clocksource to tsc to improve performance. At least AWS have now included it in their recommendations.
This weekend I am travelling to Australia for the first AWS Summit of 2017. I find on such a long trip, to keep me from getting distracted, I need an exciting paper that is easy to read. Last week's 'Deep Learning' overview would have not met those requirements.
got a lot smoother at re:Invent 2017. As I also said in Learning Lambda 9 : Since the concurrency limit [of Lambda] is account-wide, one particularly important aspect to be aware of is that one Lambda function that has scaled particularly wide can impact the performance of every other Lambda function in the same AWS account + region pair.
AWS Aurora (based on MySQL 5.6) I will compare AWS Aurora with MySQL (Percona Server) 5.6 For the purposes of the test I turned PQ on and off (normally AWS Aurora uses its own heuristics to determine if the PQ will be helpful or not): Turn on and force: mysql> set session aurora_pq = 1; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00
