I moved to the US in 2006 as there were many more opportunities there, especially in kernel engineering and performance. Sydney has AWS and Google offices and even a small Netflix office, just to name a few. There is also a wider variety of roles available. Another reason is that the tech market became stronger in Australia.

The latest AWS hypervisor, Nitro, uses everything to provide a new hardware-assisted hypervisor that is easy to use and has near bare-metal performance. AWS called this [enhanced networking]. March 26, 2008 doesn't have any delicious desserts associated with it, but that's the day when we launched Availability Zones for Amazon EC2.

Today, I am very excited to announce our plans to open a new AWS Region in France! Over the past 10 years, we have seen tremendous growth at AWS. As a result, we have opened 35 Availability Zones (AZs), across 13 AWS Regions worldwide. French organizations were amongst the first to use AWS when we launched in 2006.
